INSTALLATION
The Unattainable / The Intimate
The Unattainable / The Intimate (2015) • touch responsive immersive audio and video installation
This interactive installation was created for the Immersive Lab, an artistic and technological research project of the Institute of Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST) at the Zurich University of the Arts. In collaboration with Jan Schacher, Daniel Bisig, Stefani Byrd and Juan Rubio, The Unattainable / The Intimate is an immersive installation that explores embodiment, intimacy in physical and digital spaces, haptic interaction and mediated images.
The Immersive Lab integrates panoramic video and surround audio with full touch interaction on the entire screen surface. It is composed by 16 loud speakers, 2 sub-woofers, and 4 large curved screens that respond to physical touch via infra-red cameras, controlled through Max-MSP.
The audience interacts with the characters "trapped" inside the digital environment, by touching and exploring the different areas of the immersive environment. The audience can touch or drag their hands on the screens in order to interact and elicit a sonic response and / or a response from the different characters.
